What about love?

Deeply, passionately enamored with something, anything

Love will find you in the innocence of night and re-kindle that spark

The very scent of desire wafts about your nose and beckons you to come hither

Now from behind you, you hear the slow steady insistent beat of a rhythm

You’ve heard this rhythm before, it’s the one that calls you out towards being something more

You breathe in sync to the rhythm with this river of breath and it pulls you in so slowly, so seductively

You can no longer contain it, deny or delay it.

This is what you came here for, to ride the wings of desire, to gallop across a sky and paint it with the rainbows of your heart’s desire

Now when you lose touch with this passion, remember this place,
be ever faithful to your heart’s calling.

It is as vast as infinity and as wide as your love for it.

After the storm, a rainbow comes – someone has painted their glory across the sky.

They say don’t die with your music still in you.

I say don’t die with your heart’s desires still in you.

The Prayer

Something magical happens when I experience something that is such a display of splendor for the first time.  It stirs the embers of my Eternal Home.  The fires lit, I remember … nothing, not a thing at all, needs mending today.

I pray you’ll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don’t know

Let this be our prayer
As we go our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your Grace
To a place where we’ll be safe
La luce che tu dai

I pray we’ll find your light
Nel cuore restera
And hold it in our hearts
A ricordarci che
When stars go out each night
L’eterna stella sei
Nella mia preghiera
Let this be our prayer
Quanta fede c’e
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace

Give us faith so we’ll be safe.
Sogniamo un mondo senza piu violenza

Un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace e di fraternita

La forza che ci dai
We ask that life be kind
E’il desiderio che
And watch us from above
Ognuno trovi amore
We hope each soul will find
Intorno e dentro a se
Another soul to love

Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer
Just like every child
Just like every child

Needs to find a place,
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe
E la fede che
Hai acceso in noi
Sento che ci salvera

For Free

Joni Mitchell wrote a song “For Free” many years ago.  It was the song
about the sax (?) player, playing on a noisy street corner.  A song of how
everyone passed his music by.  That song left an indelible imprint, a resolve
in me to take less for granted.  I wanted to notice, to appreciate and to savor more.

This is also probably the number one tool that could get someone out
of a mild depression.  Just to make it your only job to look, to listen, to observe
the beauty and the wonder that abounds.

Did you know the average healthy mature oak tree has over 200.000 leaves?
That’s a lot of appreciation to go around.  And when they drop they give nutrients
to the soil, it’s a double dipper appreciation!

No one has counted the needles of a redwood but they produce over 100,000 cones a year, thus a single tree can produce over ten million seeds annually.  That’s one Fertile Myrtle (though technically not in the Myrtle family :))

For Free.

The air, your breath, your thoughts, your feelings, your talents, your beating heart
16 trillion behind-the-scenes processes in your body ….

For Free.

receiving and giving love, adoring anything or anyone for a millisecond or a life time
The man on the street corner strumming his guitar
a thank you, with the flesh of a palm reaching out to another palm
unexplained synchronicities and explained ones too
hugs and kisses

For Free.

the smells of freshly cooked food
the admiration for the time and talent that went into that food
including the appreciation for the plants and animals that provided this nourishment

For Free.

Your body as your temple
The song of the meadowlark in the distance
or the song of crisp clean sheets snapping across the air
the shore seagulls scurrying for fresh food at low tide
the water of which we are made
and the formlessness to which we return

I posted the lyrics to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” a few weeks ago.  Fran, one of my blog readers, reminded me of another one of his songs, “Suzanne”.  Lyrics below and a youtube video from 1976 with both Leonard Cohen and Judy collins singing it.  Judy Collins was my introduction to Leonard Cohen.  Her earlier recordings contained many Leonard Cohen songs .  You may know Leonard Cohen as a brilliant lyricist, singer, musician.  I think of him as a great poet also.

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she’s half crazy
But that’s why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you’ve always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you’ve touched her perfect body with your mind.

And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said “All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them”
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you’ll trust him
For he’s touched your perfect body with his mind.

Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she’s touched your perfect body with her mind.

Kahlil Gibran has said the deeper that sorrow cuts into your being the more joy you can contain.  And so it is, as we weave through this crazy thing called life, that sometimes sorrow does run deep but I find comfort in knowing, as Enya’s song brilliantly reflects below – believe and you will find a way.  And more than that, believe that goodness will come from your anguish, that at some point you will know that you are more than you were before for having stepped through and beyond it.  May that promise live within you now, I know that it does within me.

Composed and performed by Enya
Lyrics by Roma Ryan

May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home

Mornie utúlie (darknesss has come)
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie (darknesss has fallen)
A promise lives within you now

May it be the shadows call
Will fly away
May it be your journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun

Mornie utúlie (darknesss has come)
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie (darknesss has fallen)
A promise lives within you now

A promise lives within you now

August Rush

Listen, can you hear it?
The music
I can hear it everywhere
In the wind
In the air
In the light
It’s all around us
All you have to do is open yourself up.
All you have to do is listen.

Light ‘O Mine

In honor of my friend Luana, who inspired me to sing this song yesterday.  In honor of my birthday today!  In honor of all of YOUR birthdays!  Whoever you are, wherever you are, let yourself shine from time to time.

If you care to add another lyric to this song, Luana taught me this one: I’ve got a home in glory land that outshines the sun.  Many blessings to you all.
