I’ve mentioned before that I used to subscribe to “this week’s powerful question”. Somehow I seem to have fallen off the email train, but undeterred I now make up my own questions. These are not designed to be readily answered. Some of them have a built-in alarm clock that snaps me awake out of the seductive trance we all fall prey to from time to time. Some of them are inspiring, and some of them hang there and remain a question that can’t be answered by conditioned mind, more by the willingness to openly explore how it may operate in my own life. And then the further readiness, to gently navigate back on the self-friendly path.
So … today’s inquiry:
Who am I without my history?
Let’s try that again:
Who am I without my Hi-Story?
To come up with an analogy would be a label or a judgement so ultimately a thought. A thought that comes from the ego in us, a thought that will add something to who we think we are, Thus creating the illusion that keeps us in the service of the ego.
So this question Who am i ? can never be answered. Maybe it’s the big mystery in life, when we think we have grasped it and try to attach pattern match some thought to it, it is gone.
Yes, thank you, quite valid point. The question I intended is — who am I without my story (hence hi or hello, story). This is a version of Byron Katie’s work, meant to stop the story loop that goes on from the neck up, in its tracks.
Hi, i am not familiar with Byron Katie’s work, so i shall look into that.
Does the story loop ever stop or do we stop attaching our self to it?
Exactly!! High five!!
Recently blogged the same topic. Like minds.
Much love.
