Just sit there right now
Don’t do a thing
Just rest.
For your separation from God,
From love,
Is the hardest work
In this
World.
Let me bring you trays of food
And something
That you like to
Drink.
You can use my soft words
As a cushion
For your
Head.

The Gift: Poems by Hafiz
Translations by Daniel Ladinsky
Yes, it’s hard work, very hard work…”your separation from God, from love is the hardest work” of the world and with such great suffering. It matters not why we separate or even that we do, only that we wake up and remember there’s another way. It’s a holy precious path that will ask you to leave doubt and fear behind you, like yesterday’s old news. It will ask for your consent to hope, to faith, to belief, to knowing. It will ask you to move your gaze ahead to the horizon of new beginnings. It will ask only and all of this and nothing more. Will you give that holy precious path a chance? I will.
beautiful. through you, i have discovered some wonderful, spiritual poetry. many thanx!
Oh my, this is music to my ears! Thank you so much. It is Joseph Riley at Panhala yahoo group, who I credit for exposing me to poetry of this genre. He sparked a love for it in me that I am happy to pass along.
Do you get this chair at the end of the journey? :) Lovely thoughts, Beth and I love this Hafiz poem. TY
Nah, not this chair for me. Mine will be a bit rumpled and disheveled and double as a cat scratching post much to my chagrin and my cats’ delight. :) Thanks Laurie <3
I was reading The Gift this morning when I woke up while sipping my coffee. then I come here and find Hafiz with you as well….love our alignment!
