I dwell in Possibility
A fairer House than Prose
More numerous of Windows
Superior — for Doors
Of Chambers as the Cedars
Impregnable of Eye
And for an Everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky
Of Visitors — the fairest
For Occupation — This
The spreading wide of narrow Hands
To gather Paradise
~Emily Dickinson~

Beautiful! I adore the line — “I dwell in possibility.” That, is making its way onto another one of my homemade “well-being” cards. I admit, I was caught in present day concerns yesterday when one of my cats suddenly took very ill. Human, this, I am. And yet, I am always willing to become more than my fears. Emily Dickinson inspires me today and with gratitude, I write further:
Of all the things to dwell in,
why not — Possibility?
Beyond dwelling in “what is”,
past fears and trepidations,
distant from mundane worries,
clear of disquieting uncertainty,
lies the unbounded opportunity:
“to dwell in Possibility …
and gather Paradise.”
I love dwelling in possibilities and it is amazing how endless they are. I love your added lines here….love unbounded opportunity.
gathering you up into my paradise….love you….amy
I just loved those two lines: I dwell in possibility and gather paradise. I think ED was writing about poetry over prose, hope she likes the direction I took it in :). Love you too! ♥
Okay, first of all, we need an update on the kitty! I’ve been thinking about you and your furkid since last night. Hope all is well. (Hugs enclosed for you both!)
Then, my appreciation for the beautiful poem, and for your extension of it! You do discover the lovliest, soul-touching things to share. Every time I visit here, it’s I who am simply blessed.
I wanted to say, too, that the Golden Key was most interesting. What an excellent way to dissolve troubling thoughts and remember who we really are.
As always, deep thanks . . . for who you are, for all that you share.
Susan
Oh thank you so much Susan. I am *deeply* grateful for your blog as well!
Kitty is Bob, he is our two year old big boy, 14#’er. Pure white, blue eyes. If you type in “war and peace” in the search box for this blog, it will bring up a couple of images of our dog Issie with Bob, when Bobby was still a little one.
He developed a urinary obstruction and it became very serious, very quickly. We hope he can come home tomorrow, they are removing his urinary catheter tonight. He has to be able to pee on his own to come home though. He’s out of the woods, as they say, in the clear as far as survival goes. I’m educating myself on what he needs to live a long, healthy life. He’s in the right place :).
Thank you for asking Susan. Many blessings, Beth
Love this post, Bethie! It is always good to be reminded to dwell in our possibilities, not our limitations.
So glad to hear that Beautiful Bob is on the mend.
Love,
M
I know! I’ve heard “dwell” used in so many ways … I dwell in possibilities just lit up for me. Love you too Marie. I see a tree walk in our future!
