When we learn to trust the Universe, we shall be happy, prosperous and well.  We must learn to come under that Divine Government, and accept the fact that Nature’s table is ever filled.  Never was there a Cosmic famine.  “The finite alone has wrought and suffered, the Infinite lies stretched in smiling repose.”  God is always God.  No matter what our emotional storm, or what our objective situation, may be, there is always a something hidden in the inner being that has never been violated.  We may stumble, but always there is that Eternal Voice, forever whispering within our ear, that thing which causes the eternal quest, that thing which forever sings and sings.

I am currently reading an older metaphysical/new thought book
from 1954, by U.S. Andersen.  It’s entitled Three Magic Words.
He suggests repeating the words, I’ve appended below, after
a daily 10 minute period of stillness and when you have entered
a calm and peaceful place, and only then.  For you eft tappers,
this could also be turned into an eft script.

It’s really quite beautiful, note the language: law of attraction,
as you get further into it.  He also had some exposure to
Ernest Holmes and Holmes also used that terminology.

“I know that I am pure spirit, that I always have been,
and that I always will be.  There is inside me a place of
confidence and quietness and security where all things
are known and understood.  This is the Universal Mind,
God, of which I am a part and which responds to me as I
ask of it.  This universal mind knows the answer to all of
my problems, and even now the answers are speeding
their way to me.  I needn’t struggle for them; I needn’t
worry or strive for them.  When the time comes, the
answers will be there.  I give my problems to the great mind
of God; I let go of them, confident that the correct answers
will return to me when they are needed.  Through the
great law of attraction, everything in life that I need
for my work and fulfillment will come to me.  It is not
necessary that I strain about this, only believe.  For in
the strength of my belief, my faith will make it so.  I
see the hand of divine intelligence all about me, in
the flower, the tree, the brook, the meadow.  I know that
the intelligence that created all these things is in me and
around me and that I can call upon it for my slightest
need.  I know that my body is a manifestation of pure
spirit and that spirit is perfect; therefore my body is
perfect also.  I enjoy life, for each day brings a constant
demonstration of the power and wonder of the universe and
myself.  I am confident.  I am serene.  I am sure.  No matter
what obstacle or undesirable circumstance crosses my
path, I refuse to accept it, for it is nothing but illusion.
There can be no obstacle or undesirable circumstance to
the mind of God, which is in me, and around me, and
serves me now.”

The idea behind the Law of Attraction is not new. The concept can be found
in Hinduism and, due to the influence of Hinduism on Theosophy, it is mentioned
in early Theosophical texts, as well. In 1877, the term “Law of Attraction” was used
by Helena Blavatsky in her first book on esoteric mysteries, Isis Unveiled: Secrets
of the Ancient Wisdom Tradition. In 1902, a principle similar to the law of attraction,
but not named by that phrase, was mentioned in As a Man Thinketh by James
Allen (1864 – 1912). The title derives from the ancient Jewish Book of Proverbs,
chapter 23, verse 7: “As [a man] thinketh in his heart, so he is.”

In 1906, William Walker Atkinson (1862 – 1932) used the phrase in his New Thought
Movement book, Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World.
Atkinson was the editor of New Thought magazine, a student of Hinduism, and the
author of more than 100 books on an assortment on religious, spiritual, and occult
topics. The following year, Elizabeth Towne, the editor of The Nautilus Magazine, a
Journal of New Thought, published Bruce MacLelland’s book Prosperity Through
Thought Force, in which he summarized the principle, stating “You are what you
think, not what you think you are.” The phrase “Law of Attraction” appeared in the
writings of the Theosophical authors William Quan Judge in 1915, and Annie Besant
in 1919.

By the mid 1900s and continuing into the early 2000s, various authors addressed
the topic under a range of terminology, such as positive thinking, “mental science”,
“pragmatic Christianity”, “New Thought”, “practical metaphysics”, Science of Mind” /
“Religious Science” and Divine Science. Among the mid 20th century authors
who used the term were Sri K. Parvathi Kumar (1942) and Alice Bailey (1942),
as well as Florence Scovel Shinn (1925).

Every problem contains its own answer if you think of the problem
merely as a question, and inquiry, and not as an obstruction. Thinking
of it this way, keep your mind not on the repetition of thoughts about
the problem, but on the receipt of a definite answer.
