as twilight begins
and darkness descends
light pours into small spaces
and I am tossed out into the violet night
half remembering now the questions I asked:
what’s it like in that other realm?
and
will I be alone?
answers drift in from faraway places
and hang like forbidden fruit
words and images impossible to translate
relief comes as the first blush of morning arrives
wind strokes [...]

what will you do…?

what will you do…?
when the worry is gone
when the self condemnation is gone
when fear is not your bedfellow
what will you do with that new wide open space
lay down in it
breathe deeply
close your eyes
you are home

Rassouli
how do you say Live
to one who is backstage rehearsing their lines
how do you say Take flight
when you no longer dream of flying
how do you say Dive
to one who is afraid of drowning
how do you say Heal this heart
even as it wails in tender grief
how do you say Now, not a moment longer
to one who [...]

so many Angels now
they are beginning
to double up
two for each of us
one to straighten
the wings
and the other
to push you
off the precipice

Ode to a Cherry Blossom

o, to be held captive
inside your cherry blossoms
pinned to your creamy folds
like a bumble bee chubby with pollen
too deliciously full to move
until I am drunk with your fragrance
intoxicated with wonderment
stunned with awe
speechless with amazement
and tumble out onto the splendid
soft green earth filled with the
pulsing passion of being alive

All That Remains

I want to linger inside the silence
void of sound and distraction
long enough to see for myself that love’s only obstacle
fear, really is just a paper dragon
I want to let every barrier to love fall away
I want to liberate what sleeps within me
and awake resplendent in all that remains:
your pure and perfect love

God couldn’t be here himself
so he clothed his Helpers in fur
and sent them to Earth
be soft he said
and they were
lick he said
and they did
purr he said
and they did
love, love, love he said
as if nothing else ever mattered
and o, how they do.

A Day Like Today

heavy your skies labored today
rain
hail
rain
hail again
and snow
sights and sounds that left me
breathless at my window
deep sunset now and I am
swept in crimson and coral
raindrops hang like glass ornaments
look closely and I am happily lost
deep in your world.

Signs of Spring

The earth is my new employer. My job now is to look for the signs of Spring.
And no, I’m not going to tell you that it’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it.
I’ve been asked just to notice and this is what I observed:
here the green grass awake from its dormancy
and in need of [...]
